I will be the first to admit that my taste in films is not brilliant, i go to the cinema once every 2 to 3 years, and i do not own a television at all, so i dont watch that many, only online when i have a spare hour or so. Ok, again it is not fine art, or film noir, this is a gritty british gangster film after all, but i felt the overall cinematography to be rather good, and not relying on too many cutaways.Īll in all a pretty decent film of its genre, why so many are hating on it i do not know. The sound track is also pretty good, sometimes soundtracks in these films can be a bit annoying, relying too much on suspense etc, but i liked the mood of the music used throughout the entire film, it never got in the way and always upped the vibe for me.įinally, the cinematography, i loved it. It is gritty, and i thought the acting was not too bad really, i have seen far poorly acted films from hollywood, so given that this Brit flick was filmed in 8 days, I would say they did a tremendous job with this. The story is ok, its not high brow entertainment but that is not why you watch a film lie this. The game can be practically be played anywwhere due to its simple gameplay and requirements.I like this film, it was very easy to get into once it began, and the characters decent enough, with a plot twist that was pretty obvious, however, it was still an enjoyable film to watch, and here is why. Something cool about Nine Men's Morris is that it is extremely portable. Note: something i forgot to mention about Nine Men's Morris is that you cannot take pieces part of a mill from the board unless there are no other available pieces to take. My personal favorite is Nine Penny Marl because it shows how the game can be played with pennies. Because Nine Men's Morris is a game that dates back to the Roman empire, it goes by over a dozen different names. The player with three or more pieces remaining wins. The game ends when a player has less than three pieces remaining on the board. When this happens, the player can move one of their last three pieces to any empty spot on the board during their turn in an attempt to build mills. When a player only has three pieces remaning on the board, they enter what is called "flying mode". This continues until one of the players has only three pieces remaining. However, unlike before, you can only move pieces to adjacent empty spots on the board. As with before, the goal is to build Mills and remove your oppoent's pieces from the board. Once both players have all of their pieces on the board, they start moving their pieces on their turns. This continues until each player has all of their pieces on the board. When a player completes a Mill, they can remove any of their opponent's pieces from the board. Players build mills by getting three of their pieces in a row vertically or horizontally. The main game mechanic of Nine Men's Morris is building mills. Pieces can only be placed on and moved to empty intersections and corners on the board. Phase 1: Placing piecesĪt the beginning of the game, players take turns placing pieces on the board. Each player starts the game with nine pieces each. Nine men's morris is played on a board with three squares inside of each other, these squares are connect with vertical and horizantal lines (like the board seen above). There are several variations of the games with most well known (and oldest) version being Nine Men's Morris. They are played on a board with a series of contained squares with each player using a certain amount of stones. © MMXII Paul Emory Sullivan Merrelles (also called Nine Mens Morris, Mühle and Mill) is one of the worlds most ancient games. The Morris series of games are some of the best ever created.
